Sikh Rulers of Patiala, Rajendra Singh (1876-1900), donative Rupee, 11.88g, mint named as Sarhind, but struck at Patiala, VS (19)42, with Gobindshahi Sikh legend, rev. katar to left of Patiala emblem (Y# 6a; Saran & Dalwinder PT 31 (with date '43')), uneven stike with some edge faults, but generally about very fine, rare

Herrli writes that after the British annexed the Trans-Sutlej Sikh state that a series of coins began to be issued in Patiala on which the Ahmad Shah Durrani legend was replaced by the Gobindshahi couplet. This series ran in parallel to coins bearing the Durrani legends. He suggests that the Gobindshahi types might have been produced primarily for donative and ceremonial purposes after the mint at Amritsar ceased production in 1849.
