Kashmir Mint, VS1880 Rupee, Sri Ram in Farsi
Ranjit Singh (1780-1839) / Governor Diwan Moti Ram (1821-1825), Silver Rupee, Kashmir mint, Gobindshahi couplet with the additional word 'SRI RAM' in Persian on obverse (Herrli 06.11.04 A+B). Very Fine, Extremely Rare.
A few coins struck under Diwan Moti Ram in VS 1880 in Kashmir has the word ‘SRI RAM’ in Persian along with Gobindshahi couplet. People particularly scholars regard it debateable as to why he added the word ‘SRI RAM’ on the coins that too in the Persian, e.g. – Either to reflect Hindu- Sikh unity or to emphasize the point that his own name included the word ‘Ram’ just as Akbar had once preferred to inscribe ‘Allahu Akbar’ with dual meanings on his coins - See more at: http://kohinoorauctions.com/item.php?id=689#sthash.XDfGC40L.dpuf
