Gobindshahi Coinage of Amritsar
  • There was a parallel series of coins with the mintname 'Sri Ambratsar', these carried the legends as on the seal of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, starting VS1841 and ended in VS1865. The series was again started in VS1895 and ended in VS1905. The later coins were perhaps struck by the Sikh Empire for ceremonial purposes.
    Legend :
Obverse : 'Degh Tegh Fateh; Nusrat Bedarang; Yaft az Nanak Guru Gobind Singh'

Note : The legend was not known by a separate name during the Sikh Empire period. It seems that the nomenclature as been changed for the convenience of differentiating the coins. The copper coins with the Gobindshahi legend mention 'Pao Anna Nanakshahi' on the reverse, proving that the legends did not have seperate names.
