Sikh Empire, Fateh Singh, INO Sarkar Ahluwalia, Silver Trial Strike of a Nazarana Double Rupee, 41.77 mm, 22.19 g, Uniface coin bearing the impression of the reverse die of the famed Ahluwalia Rupee with legends in Gurmukhi reading Akal Shahi and legends in Persian reading Sarkar Ahluwalian Sanah 18xx Fateh Singh alongiwth a Lion depicted at about 6 o'clock. The coin illustrated by Hans Herli as 08.15.04 is a Rupee and seemingly has parts of the legend off-flan, whereas the coin being offered in this sale has a diameter of 41.7 mm and hence has been able to accommodate almost all of the details so inscribed in the die. The purpose of the Ahluwalia Rupee, which was struck in the year of the Treaty of Lahore may well have been the documentation and affirmation of the independent position claimed by the Ahluwalia Misl represented by its leader Fateh Singh. The current piece could very well be a Trial Strike for the Ahluwalia Rupee punched on a planchet weighing the likes of a Double Rupee and must been intended to be issued as a Nazarana/ Presentation. A significantly important coin which helps one in decoding the complete legends of the Ahluwalia Rupee. (Unlisted Unique). Fine, Exceedingly Rare
